More Starter Resources--Subject Encyclopedias

Consulting a subject encyclopedia can be an excellent way to begin a research project.  Subject encyclopedias are much more specific than generic, all-purpose encyclopedias such as Encyclopedia Britannica.  Subject encyclopedias focus on a limited topic and provide much more in-depth information than a general encyclopedia.  However, a subject encyclopedia is a "starter resource, "  in other words, a resource that is used to gain an overall sense of a topic.  From here, the researcher should move on to examine books and articles devoted to the topic.

How to find one?  Browse Credo Reference, which is a large collection of online reference books on diverse subjects.  You can find print subject encyclopedias by doing a keyword search and adding the word "encyclopedia" into the search box.

Below are education subject encyclopedias.
