Monmouth World Cinema Series 2021-2022

A film series designed to expose Monmouth University students to a panorama of mostly documentary films that challenge assumptions, raise awareness, inspire empathy, and foster wider understanding of global and cultural issues.

"Sin Nombre" (Mexico, 2009)

To be shown in tandem with Hispanic Heritage Month during September or October.  This film about a Honduran teen who wishes to emigrate to Mexico and the U.S. with other family members in pursuit of a better life puts her into the hands of Honduran gang members whose activities drive the family out of Honduras but who also control the “trains” to Mexico and entry into the U.S.  This dramatic thriller is full of suspense and illuminates the elements of displacement, identity, and resiliency that will connect our films.  The subcommittee agreed that “Sin Nombre” is an excellent kick-off feature for our 2021-2022 WCS.
