Fall 2023 Info from MU Health Services

Below are key points from Monmouth University Health Services regarding protocols for Fall 2023. See attached document for complete information. NOTE: An updated COVID-19 vaccine targeting the Omicron variant is expected to be out in September 2023.

  • COVID-19 symptoms may vary from being asymptomatic to severe.  If someone has cold-like, allergy-like or flu-like symptoms, they should test themselves for COVID-19.
  • Free rapid COVID-19 testing is available at the Monmouth University Health Center for all students.
  • If a student tests positive for COVID-19, they should notify Health Service by emailing health@monmouth.edu.
  • If notified within 10 days of a positive COVID-19 test, Health Services will provide appropriate documentation and instruction.
  • Any person who tests positive for COVID-19 should NOT attend in-person class, clinicals, practice, work internships or social events for at least five days.
  • COVID-19 positive students living in campus-sponsored housing may either go home or stay in their room for the 5-day period.
  • The COVID-19 positive person may return on day 6 but should be masked for days 6-10 or until a rapid antigen test is negative.
  • Students are responsible for notifying professors of absence from class and making up any missed assignments.
  • Persons who have direct exposure to a COVID-19 positive case should test themselves 3-5 days post-exposure or sooner if they develop symptoms; they do not have to quarantine.

MU Confronts COVID

Confronting COVID: Research & Reflections from Monmouth University Students in the Early Days of the COVID-19 Pandemic is a collection of both research and reflections of contributing Monmouth University student-authors. The essays, gathered in real time through April 2020, reflect various impressions and personal experiences of students during an unprecedented time not just for the university, but for the nation and the world. Per Prof. Jones, who collected and edited the material, "the writings help capture for posterity a critical period of time when the coronavirus suddenly paralyzed the nation." The collection is thought to be one of the first of its kind.
