Voting Information & Resources: Voting in New Jersey

To register in New Jersey, you must be:

• A United States citizen
• At least 17 years old, though you may not vote until you have reached the age of 18
• A resident of the county for 30 days before the election
• You are not serving a sentence of Incarceration as a result of a conviction of an indictable offense under the laws of this or another state or of the United States.

VOTING BY MAIL IN NEW JERSEY - QUICK FACTS

You can request a vote by mail ballot online  - just download, complete and mail the request form. New Jersey voters will only receive a vote by mail ballot if they have requested one.

So you have a vote by mail ballot  - yay! But now you're not sure how to fill it out, where to mail it, or if there are other options. Don't worry, here's the quick and dirty information:

• You can drop your completed ballot at your county board of elections office. 
• You can drop your completed ballot at any drop box in your home county. Check this updated list of drop box locations for 2024.

Note: New Jersey voters cannot drop off completed vote by mail ballots at their polling locations.
