Google Book Search

Using the Library Catalog

Use the library on-line catalog to locate books relevant to your topic, or look up relevant books listed in the syllabus bibliography.

Unless you know the title and/or author of the book you are looking for,  research topics should be searched by Keyword to maximize the number of references to a topic.   If  for example, you wanted to locate books about the site of Machu Pichu, you could enter that as a search term.  A keyword search using this search term yielded 14 results.

Another way to search is to browse by Subject.  If you use "Andes Region," you will find that the subject is broken down into 111 subheadings such as  "Andes Region--Antiquities" or "Andes Region--Ethnohistory."   Subject searches are particularly useful when you need to narrow down an overly broad topic.
