A message from Dr. Catherine Duckett, who retired in Spring 2025:
"Dear Colleagues,
Today is my last day at MU. Thank you all for your welcomes, your collaboration and collegiality over the 15 plus years I have been at Monmouth. I appreciate it... I want to ask you to please support my project, the Climate Crisis Teach-in to the best of your abilities going forward."
The MU community is grateful for Dr. Duckett's service to Monmouth and dedication to climate change awareness and education. She will be greatly missed.
On Monday September 29, 2025 at 6:30 pm in Edison 201, Dr. Tjeerd Boonma, McMullen Family Professor in Economics at MU presented “Weather Derivatives, Financial Tools for a Changing Climate.”
On Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at 6 pm in Edison 201, Rachel Forbes will present "Climate Change and Mental Health: Fostering Hope and Connection." Forbes, MSW (’11M), is the community outreach and engagement specialist at the Urban Coast Institute at Monmouth University. Sign up here.
Brief Description: This presentation explores the growing mental health impacts of climate change, with a focus on community-level strategies that promote resilience, hope, and collective agency. Drawing on emerging research and best practices, it highlights how climate anxiety and ecological grief—particularly among Gen Z—are shaped by systemic inequities, uncertainty, and disruption. The session emphasizes the importance of intergenerational dialogue, mutual aid, and relational care in fostering emotional support and well-being. Participants will be introduced to tools, resources, and evidence-informed approaches for creating communities of care where climate-related emotions are validated and shared. Together, we will envision how interdisciplinary groups and diverse professionals can build climate-responsive mental health systems grounded in justice, connection, and collective action.
